Vapour-phase soldering

Reliable and process-controlled vapour-phase soldering

Vapour-phase soldering is one of the most reliable and process-stable reflow soldering methods used in modern electronics manufacturing. As heat is transferred via a condensing medium, the assemblies are heated extremely evenly and gently. At the same time, the low-oxygen process environment prevents oxidation during the soldering process and ensures a high standard of soldering quality, even for complex assemblies with high component density or sensitive components.

Vapour-phase soldering offers significant advantages, particularly for complex printed circuit boards. The defined maximum process temperature protects temperature-sensitive components from overheating and ensures reproducible results with high process stability.

In-line vapour-phase soldering systems

V2100 and VP2200 for large-scale production runs

Full line integration and the elimination of workpiece carriers: this is the focus of ASSCON’s vapour-phase in-line soldering systems.

This type of in-line system is characterised by the simple transfer and handling of printed circuit boards via pin chains. Transport systems with electrically adjustable widths allow for quick and straightforward adaptation to changing products, thereby offering the flexibility required in modern electronics manufacturing today. Integration with line control computers is also possible. Full automation combined with the highest quality in the process is the guiding principle here.

The VP2100 and VP2200 models take things a step further. At just 2.7 m in length, the VP2100 is one of the narrowest fully automated in-line ovens in the world. It is particularly well suited to production environments where 5-metre-long convection ovens cannot be accommodated. The VP2200, on the other hand, is the workhorse of all vapour-phase systems. Thanks to its patented, built-in multi-vacuum technology, porosity rates of less than 1% are achieved. This makes the VP2200 particularly suitable for the high-quality sector, for products manufactured for the military, the aerospace industry or the medical sector.

Standalone vapour-phase soldering systems

VP800, VP1000 and VP6000 for small-batch and batch production

Maximum flexibility and optimum soldering quality are key features of ASSCON’s stand-alone vapour-phase soldering systems.

The use of workpiece carriers makes these systems ideally suited to both small and large production volumes, as well as to assemblies of any design and size. As the two process chambers are arranged one above the other, this batch system can also be installed in even the smallest production facilities. The design as batch systems enables island-style production. In this way, the system can be loaded from a wide variety of production stations.

The patented Multi-Vacuum technology reduces voids in solder joints and achieves void rates of < 1%. The vacuum module (optional), which can be activated during the process, is located outside the soldering area (clean vacuum technology) and is therefore extremely low-maintenance.

The VP1000 and VP6000 models also allow for 24/7 batch production, albeit at a lower throughput than with an in-line machine. For many customers, this is the ideal choice when it comes to value for money.

Top-loading unit for prototyping and experimental soldering

VP310 and 510: Ideal for research and development organisations

Top-loader systems enable an optimal soldering process in the smallest of spaces.

Ready for immediate use anywhere and without any preparation – even at different locations! The systems are particularly suitable for trial soldering, for qualifying the soldering process and for soldering prototype assemblies. Thanks to its semi-automatic operation, the system can also be used for single-unit production. The two top-loader systems, the VP310 and VP510, have very low energy consumption and can be operated from the mains supply at 230 V. Depending on the maximum PCB size, either the VP310, with a maximum area of 300 × 300 mm, or the VP510, with a maximum area of 450 × 450 mm, is suitable.
